The Elder Scrolls Online: Gold Road Chapter and Update 42 Released

Bethesda has announced the release of The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) Gold Road Chapter and Update 42 for PC and Mac. The Gold Road Chapter introduces the new zone of West Weald, expanding the game world along Cyrodiil’s southwestern border. This Chapter concludes the narrative surrounding Ithelia, the Forgotten Prince, first introduced in the previous year’s Shadows Over Morrowind saga. Players can now explore West Weald, which features new quests, world bosses, and dungeons, enriching the game’s content.

In addition to the new zone, the Gold Road Chapter introduces the Scribing system, allowing players to craft and customize abilities. This system provides a new dimension for character development by letting players select and modify Grimoires to create abilities tailored to their playstyles. The Chapter also adds new group activities, including the Lucent Citadel Trial and Mirrormoor Incursions, designed to challenge players with large-scale encounters and world events. A variety of new rewards, such as item sets, Mythic items, and collectibles, are available, contributing to the game's existing progression systems.

Update 42, released alongside the Gold Road Chapter, is a free base-game patch available to all ESO players. This update brings various improvements, including bug fixes and balance changes, enhancing the overall gameplay experience. Notable features include updates to the in-game mail system and measures aimed at improving environmental sustainability by reducing GPU use and adjusting framerates during inactivity. The Gold Road Chapter is available in multiple editions, providing options for both new and returning players, and will launch on consoles on June 18.
