Persona 5: The Phantom X Faces Criticism Over Update Disparity Between Global and Chinese Versions

Persona 5: The Phantom X, the mobile and PC spin-off of the Persona series, has seen a shift in its Steam user rating from "Mostly Positive" to "Mixed" following growing concerns from global players. The issue stems from a recent decision to speed up the global release schedule in order to match the Chinese version of the game. While the update frequency is set to increase, players have pointed out that in-game resource availability remains unchanged, making it difficult to keep pace with content releases.

A specific concern among global players involves discrepancies in in-game rewards. After a recent maintenance, users on global servers received 100 Meta-Gems, while players in China reportedly received 300. Additionally, promotional codes available in some Asian regions granted further Meta-Gem bonuses, increasing the gap in available resources. This imbalance has led to criticism from the community, with some users stating that the global version is not being managed with the same level of support as its counterpart.

The ongoing backlash has prompted comparisons to other service models, particularly referencing Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius, which shut down its global servers while continuing operations in Japan. Some users have suggested that Persona 5: The Phantom X may face a similar outcome if the feedback is not addressed. As of now, there has been no official response from Sega or the game’s developers regarding the reported differences in server support and reward distribution.

Ragnarok M: Eternal Love II Releases Open-World Demo Footage Featuring Exploration, Combat, and Social Features

Gravity Interactive and Big Cat Studio have released a new set of open-world demo videos for Ragnarok M: Eternal Love II. The clips highlight various traversal mechanics, including players climbing terrain, leaping across gaps, and navigating locations such as the walls of Prontera. These previews suggest a design direction that maintains references to the original Ragnarok Online while incorporating updated navigation and movement systems.

The second segment of the preview focuses on combat, with a six-minute video showing boss battles against characters like Eddga and Drake. The gameplay presents a more mobile and timing-based approach, with a noticeable emphasis on coordinated attacks and reactive play. This suggests that the sequel may be adjusting its battle systems to include more active participation from players during encounters.

The final portion of the demo presents the game’s social features. This includes character pose options for photos, a gifting system, and interactive elements related to relationships. These additions indicate that Ragnarok M: Eternal Love II will provide systems that support in-game social engagement. The combined previews outline the developers’ current direction, which appears to focus on traversal, combat adjustments, and community mechanics.

Kuro Games Reveals Project NAMI as a Multiplayer Action RPG

Kuro Games has officially announced Project NAMI, a multiplayer action RPG developed using Unreal Engine 5. The game was previously speculated to be an MMO, but recent details confirm its focus on competitive gameplay rather than traditional massively multiplayer online elements. Set in a world where advanced technology intersects with magic, Project NAMI introduces two opposing factions—Order and Chaos—engaged in ongoing conflict.

Project NAMI features mobility-based combat that emphasizes player adaptation in both PvP encounters and battles against non-player enemies. The game is designed with dynamic environments and combat scenarios, encouraging players to make strategic decisions in real time. While it maintains the visual and thematic direction of Kuro’s previous titles, the gameplay format moves toward competitive multiplayer systems, with references to game mechanics inspired by genres like RTS, MOBA, and shooters.

This project marks a shift in Kuro Games’ development focus, moving away from single-player action RPGs toward a more competitive online format. Job listings have pointed to an emphasis on anti-cheat systems and multiplayer infrastructure, which could suggest plans for ranked modes, team-based events, or similar structured content. Project NAMI has yet to receive a release date, and further information regarding platform availability and monetization has not been disclosed.

Resident Evil: Survival Unit Set for 2025 Mobile Release

Aniplex and JOYCITY have announced that Resident Evil: Survival Unit, a free-to-play mobile strategy game, will be released in 2025 for iOS via the App Store and Android via Google Play. The game is scheduled to launch in North America, Europe, Japan, Korea, and additional regions across Asia. This project is co-developed by Aniplex and JOYCITY and is based on Capcom’s established Resident Evil series, offering a different approach focused on strategy rather than traditional survival horror gameplay.

Resident Evil: Survival Unit introduces a parallel universe storyline where players take on the role of a protagonist who wakes up in a hospital after being used in experiments by Umbrella Corporation. The narrative expands into a separate world where characters from the main series appear in new contexts. The game allows players to manage a mansion that serves as a base, incorporating elements such as interior customization, mission preparation, and interactions with familiar characters. The gameplay emphasizes building strategies, gathering resources, and making tactical decisions to progress.

The game includes real-time defense battles against creatures inspired by the original series, with players able to form teams using characters like Leon S. Kennedy, Claire Redfield, and Jill Valentine. Each character has distinct skills, allowing for various tactical setups. Additionally, the game features an original creature designed by Yoshitaka Amano, adding a new element to the franchise. With global multiplayer support, Resident Evil: Survival Unit aims to provide a connected experience for players worldwide.

Steam Surpasses 40 Million Concurrent Users

Valve’s digital distribution platform, Steam, has reached a new peak with over 40 million concurrent users. According to data from Valve and SteamDB, the platform recorded approximately 40.27 million users online at the same time, surpassing its previous record of 39 million set in December. This marks a significant increase compared to a decade ago when the platform had around 8.9 million concurrent users.

The growth in concurrent users reflects the ongoing expansion of PC gaming. Based on past trends, estimates suggest that Steam’s active monthly users may now exceed 221 million. Valve previously reported 132 million monthly active users in 2021, with a peak concurrent record of 27.4 million at the time. The increase in users aligns with broader industry trends, where digital distribution platforms continue to serve as primary access points for games.

Steam’s growth also highlights Valve’s position in the gaming industry despite its relatively small workforce compared to other major publishers. The platform remains a central hub for PC gaming, supporting a wide range of titles and services. As digital storefronts remain competitive, Steam continues to maintain its presence as a widely used platform for game distribution and online engagement.

PlayStation 2 Marks 25 Years Since Its Initial Release

The PlayStation 2, released on March 4, 2000, in Japan, has reached its 25th anniversary. As the successor to the original PlayStation, the console introduced a wide range of technical improvements and an extensive game library, contributing to its strong market presence. With over 160 million units sold worldwide, it remains the best-selling video game console to date. Its availability in North America and Europe later in 2000 further expanded its reach, solidifying its position in the industry.

Beyond its game catalog, the PlayStation 2 also functioned as a DVD player, which influenced its adoption in many households. At the time, standalone DVD players were often more expensive, making the console a practical option for consumers. This feature, along with continued software support, extended the system’s relevance for years. The console remained in production until 2013, maintaining a presence in the market long after the release of its successor.

The PlayStation 2’s impact is reflected in the variety of games released for it, spanning multiple genres and catering to different audiences. Many franchises that began or expanded on the platform continued in later generations, contributing to its long-term recognition. As the console reaches this milestone, it remains a reference point in discussions about game development and hardware design.

GOG Joins European Federation for Game Preservation Efforts

GOG has announced its membership in the European Federation of Game Archives, Museums, and Preservation Projects (EFGAMP), a coalition focused on preserving video games as cultural heritage. This partnership connects GOG, a prominent digital distributor of classic games, with organizations dedicated to the long-term archiving and accessibility of gaming history. The move underscores the increasing collaboration between the private sector and cultural institutions to safeguard digital artifacts.

As part of its preservation efforts, GOG has highlighted its GOG Preservation Program, which ensures compatibility for older games and introduces various updates to improve accessibility. The company sees its membership in EFGAMP as an opportunity to contribute its expertise in digital distribution and archiving to the federation's collective efforts. This alignment supports the organization's goal of maintaining the relevance of classic games for future generations.

EFGAMP representatives have noted the value of GOG's experience in adapting older games for modern platforms, stating that this complements the preservation work carried out by museums and archives. The collaboration aims to expand the scope of game preservation initiatives across Europe while enhancing public access to gaming history through digital innovation.

Lossless Scaling 3 Brings Frame Rate Improvements to Gaming Handhelds

Lossless Scaling, a third-party frame rate upscaling tool, has recently been updated to version 3 and is now available on Steam. This update introduces enhancements such as a 20x frame generation mode, along with performance improvements in the standard 2x and 3x modes. The tool is designed to improve gaming performance by generating additional frames while maintaining workable frame latency, making it particularly relevant for gaming handhelds with limited hardware capabilities.

Recent tests conducted on the Asus ROG Ally X, equipped with a last-generation Ryzen Z1 Extreme chip, highlighted the improvements provided by Lossless Scaling 3. Titles such as Doom Eternal and Hogwarts Legacy demonstrated notable increases in average frame rates. For instance, Doom Eternal achieved a jump from 60 FPS at 900p to 120 FPS using the 2x scaling mode. Similarly, Hogwarts Legacy saw an improvement from 44 FPS to 74 FPS at 720p on high settings. Other games, including Starfield and Forza Horizon 5, experienced comparable gains, with minimal impact on frame latency.

These results suggest that the latest iteration of Lossless Scaling may be a useful solution for extending the viability of last-generation gaming hardware. By optimizing performance without requiring additional system resources, the tool provides an alternative for improving the gaming experience on devices like the Asus ROG Ally X. Further details about the update, including specific settings and configurations, can be found in accompanying demonstrations and testing videos.

Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.1.1 Introduces New Maps and Gameplay Adjustments

Grinding Gear Games has announced the upcoming release of Patch 0.1.1 for Path of Exile 2. This update introduces four new endgame tower maps: Alpine Ridge, Bluff, Mesa, and Sinking Spire, alongside a revamp of the Lost Towers map area. Players will now encounter checkpoints in map areas, enhancing progression, and up to six respawn attempts for the Arbiter of Ash boss fight. However, respawns are limited to the keyholder’s initiation and will scale with the encounter's difficulty.

The update also focuses on rebalancing endgame map content by assigning distinct specialties to certain maps, such as increased monster density, rare chests, or mechanics like Essences and Shrines. Adjustments include a minimum of three rare monsters per map and improvements to the Atlas interface, such as clearer biome displays and enhanced zoom-out capabilities. Additional changes include scaling monster difficulty, refined boss mechanics, and alterations to the likelihood of specific content appearing in maps.

Skill and item mechanics have also been updated, with changes to Supercharged Slam, Greater Lightning Bolt, and others to streamline gameplay. Alongside these changes, bug fixes address several client and instance crashes. For further details on this update, players can refer to the official patch notes available on the Path of Exile website.

The Google Play Games is Now on PC - Beta Testing

The Google Play Games App is now on pc but there's only a few games available. The testing is only for certain regions including Australia, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand. The Google Play Games App ports existing mobile game on pc with proper keyboard and mouse control and more mobile games are on the way. Currently the game are only properly optimized in terms of controls, as the controls are currently unconfigurable and for MOBAs that's gonna be a bad thing as MOBAs requires a more precise control for player to properly enjoy the game but there are games that works very well, 1 good example is Sword Art Online: Integral Factor, It has a PC UI and the instructions on the screen are for pc, I say its already in good shape. Another game is Cookierun which I must say, is already a PC game based on my experience, It runs pretty well and I encountered no problem. The Google play store release date will vary among regions.
